So, after you read this blog post, you'll look at your toilet rolls in a different light. And when you're sitting at the toilet and doing your "business", try to contemplate on the toilet rolls and think of what can you do with it. :)

Orchard Central, Singapore

I've been wanting to write about Orchard Central, since my last visit a couple of weeks ago, but still haven't got round to actually did it. But now my long awaited holiday is here, so I guess I can spare sometime to write a story about my visit to this Singapore's first "Vertical Mall", as how they put it in all of the publication about this particular mall.

Pardon my ignorance, but this is the first time I heard of that term. And my first reaction was, huh? I thought most buildings nowadays are built to be vertical? But turns out that this "Vertical" terms are referring to the 11 floors entirely dedicated for this mall. Quite impressive, considering walking around a 4th storey mall all day has worn me out, let alone this one with 11 floors?! Geez..

Anyway, I decided to like this mall. Because :

1. It has a very generous set cozy seatings, practically everywhere within the lower levels (from ground floor up to the 3rd floor, CMIIW). No picture here, sorry, you just have to go and see for yourself then. :)
2. I love the design for their 8th level (the High Life cluster); designed to look very industrial, and looked very much like Super Potato design. But I still haven't found further info on who's the designer for this 8th floor. But the entire mall was designed by DP Architects of Singapore.

3. The variety of shops. It's definitely planned for young people (modern working urbanites as they put it, sounds so cool is it? :D) in middle to middle-high range market (ME. Yay! :D).
4. Contemporary art sculptures seems to be scattered along the mall, which is a real feast for my sore eyes.

The downside is, most of the corridors leading to the stores are maze-like, and amazingly narrow for a mall (less than 2m wide). But being an open-minded-middle-ranged-28-yo-woman, I didn't mind at all. I'm used to it. Have I not scouring the narrow corridors of Bugis Village, Chatuchak Market, Mustafa Centre, even the crowded and sometimes wet corridors of Melawai with joy? :D It's part of the excitement I should say. To find some hidden treasures along the narrow corridors. :D

Another interesting thing to point out is the variety of design. Is it supposed to reflect the joyful mix of the urban life? Maybe. See the sample below on the ceiling design.

But all in all, it's a nice experience. And I would definitely pick this mall (and Plaza Singapura) as my ultimate destination whenever I went to Orchard. :)

John Lennon & Yoko Ono by Annie Leibovitz

I found this picture when I was doing my weekend blog-trotting. Slightly disturbed by how wanton John Lennon looked, but this image intrigue me. Mostly because of the level of shamelessness and humanity in it. The crooked back, the total natural skinny nakedness (no pecs and tanned skin whatsoever), the sexual desire, it's all there. This Lennon/Ono Bed-in For Peace took place from May 26 to June 1, 1969 at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal.

And then I read that the picture was taken by Annie Leibovitz.

Ah, it explains everything then.

The provocative composition, the natural beauty, the slight feeling disturbance, but most of all, the memorability. I keep tab on this particular photographer since I first saw her series of work for Disney a while ago. LOVE it!

Above is my favourite picture from the Disney series, it is called the Disney "Fantasea", featuring Julianne Moore as a mermaid, and Michael Phelps as the merman. No one can does it better than him, I suppose. :) And the picture is simply amaaziiinggg.. :)

Below is a couple of other pictures from the series. David Beckham as Prince Phillip, and Scarlett Johansson as Cinderella.

Beautiful!

Ah, and of course, the most interesting of it all, Annie's photograph of the Queen (of England).

Video of the Day : Google Street View

A very adorable animation from Google Japan on how Google Street View works.

It's so adorable I almost ignore the uneasy feeling I get from seeing this Google Robot with camera watching and recording EVERYTHING. But I'm not. However cute the animation is. :P

But hey, maybe it's just me. Anyway it will be a very useful tool if I want to stalk someone in the future. :D

Google scouring the street for EVERYTHING.

Google saved EVERY images in his handy dandy basket.

Google uploads EVERYTHING to the Internet.

Google receives complain notifications and altered his image database accordingly.

Google working his ass off until so late at night everyday to satisfy EVERYBODY.

:)

Where The Wild Things Are

Where the Wild Things Are is a 1963 children's picture book written and illustrated by American writer Maurice Sendak.

The book is about the wild adventure of a boy named Max who is sent to his room without his supper by his mother as punishment for misbehaving. Misunderstood and rebellious, Max sets sail to the land of the Wild Things, where mischief reigns. Max wears a distinctive wolf costume during his adventures.

Although just ten sentences long, the book is generally regarded as a masterpiece of American illustrated children's literature.

The movie version is directed by Spike Jonze (the director Being John Malkovich; Adaptation; and co-created of MTV's Jackass); which scheduled to be released on October 16, 2009.

The seven creatures (Wild Things) are portrayed by actors in suits up to nine feet tall made of foam, with computer-generated faces. Which I think makes the creature looks "fresh" (as in different from other fantasy creatures in movies); but I can't help the feeling that it looks really fake sometimes.

The whole movie was shot with a handheld camera in order to compliment the "evocative" "other-worldly" feel of the film. And if you notice, it seems that this "other world" is on perpetual sunset. Which makes it beautiful, of course. And different. In a much rugged and indie kind of way.

Enjoy! :D
