Sushi Etiquette

This is a true lifesaver! :D

Now you know what to do when you're invited to a hip sushi bar.
Turns out that I still did few of the things in the "DON'T" list, like mixing the wasabi with the soy sauce :D

Old Japan in motion

This is super awesome. I just recently realized that 3D technology already exist even in the late 18th century and early 19th century! Wow.

It is commonly called as stereoview, and one of the kind of stereo images modern viewer is the View Master.

The noted Japanese photographer who responsible for these pics is T. Enami (1859-1929).

For the rest of the cool images you can find it here : http://pinktentacle.com/2009/10/animated-stereoviews-of-old-japan/. And for the original stereo images (non animated)you can find here.

Enjoy! :)

Japan's Recent Epidemic : The Thrift Bug

In all the glories of some $15-20 billion worth of Japan's luxury market that's so strong it can breeze through the difficult times of the 70's and the 80's; Japanese people can still buy $100 worth of melons or S$1000 handbags, Louis Vuitton bags or some Hermès scarves. This very fact makes luxury products in Japan seems almost like a mass market.

But not anymore.

Nowadays, seems like more and more Japanese are getting in touch with their senses and getting so big on cost saving, even the umbrella sales went up because most people don't want to spend their money on taxis and prefer to walk in the rain.

Which is environmentally friendly and I support that very much. :)

Tokujin Yoshioka - The Design Genius

I love this guy.

:)

I really do. I Loooooooooooooooooooovvee his designs.
And his latest design (that I found) is this Lake of Shimmer/ Crystal Lake for Swarovski.

It is a 9m x 8m wall of 16000 octagonal mirrors, which all are computer-controlled to be angled as the programmed movement. The crystal-like small mirrors flutter in the wind to mimic the effect of sunlight on a lake. It's beautiful! And a very smart design. :)

As rainy season approaches, Japan’s Ishikawa prefecture has been receiving some unusual precipitation — it’s been raining tadpoles.

According to prefecture officials, tadpoles have reportedly fallen from the sky in two separate towns this month. Although it is not unheard of for waterspouts and strong wind to to pull small fish and animals from water and drop them on land, no foul weather has been observed in the area, leaving residents baffled.
